Rethinking Player Development: Making Teaching and Player Development a Pillar for Staff Recruitment and Retention

Join Derek Siesser, Scott Erdmann and Ross Kukula for this educational webinar, and learn how we were able to grow our professional staff from 2 to 7, reduce hours worked and double professional income and the steps you can take to do the same.

Topics include:
  • “Status Quo Sucks” Why the current employment model creates divide at facilities, professional burnout and slows program growth.
  • “The Percentage Paradox and the Cash Conundrum” – Why paying lessons by percentage for most is a deterrent and why allowing your staff to accept cash is hurting them.
  • “What you’re doing is probably illegal, maybe” – Teaching off the clock or have employees as an independent contractor? You’re probably exposed.
  • “More mediocre jobs, or fewer great jobs” Why the jobs we’re offering create a bleak future and what we can do about it.
  • “The New Model” – How to take steps to create great jobs, booming programs and happy staff.
  • This webinar will be held via Google Meet. Receive 1 PGA PDR or 1/2 AMP Credit for attending.

Derek Siesser, PGA of Indian Canyon Golf Course was selected as the 2022 Teacher of the Year. In 2022, Derek’s students combined for 12 wins, 9 Junior State Qualifiers, 2 USGA Championship Qualifiers, 23 personal low scores and 92 strokes lower on handicap. But Derek’s qualifications for this award go beyond the golf lessons he teaches. He emerged as a leader in teaching and growing the game in 2019, winning the PNW PGA Player Development award that year, and once again has proven himself an innovator. Through his Inland Empire Golf Academy, he not only teaches golfers of all abilities, but also mentors other PGA Professionals and Associates and helps them find better work-life balance.

Scott Erdmann, PGA of Oswego Lake Country Club was honored with the 2022 Player Development Award. Scott doesn’t just create programs, he creates community and opportunities. As Director of Instruction, Scott offers a multitude of instructional programs with an outstanding level of member participation. His quality programs celebrate personal milestones to keep members engaged, while his adaptability brings in new students of all ages year after year. His latest accomplishment, the “Scoring Method” program, implements “a results based coaching system that is rooted in learning on the golf course.”

Ross Kukula, PGA is the Director of Instruction at Arrowhead Golf Club. He provides score-oriented results for golfers looking to shoot lower scores. He also runs an expansive program for beginner women and junior golfers. He was an Operation 36 “Top 50 Coach” in 2021-2023.
